After the removal, at the end of the 1990s, of the military from Oradea Fortress, used almost exclusively as a military facility for more than three centuries, and the fortress’ transfer into the property of the municipality, plans were made for the gradual conservation of the building ensemble that had partially suffered structural damage as well. The first phase of the financing from EU structural funds made possible the conservation of the former princely palace’s most valuable wing, comprising remarkable late Renaissance details, as well as of seven Austrian garrison buildings. In the second phase, the conservation of the other four wings of the pentagonal palace is planned.
