A large part of the Saxon built heritage is particularly endangered, as a result of the action of some social factors and processes having influenced and drastically changed the life of the Saxon communities over the past two decades. What contributed to this degradation process – which took over all types of buildings, from farmer houses in the villages where the population emigrated almost entirely, to public buildings and fortified churches – was specifically the lack of usage, resulting in its turn from the decrease or even disappearance of the Saxon communities, as well as the lack of regular maintenance and repair works, which are necessary for preserving any type of building.
