The safety of historic load-bearing structures is influenced by initial conditions related to the empirical-intuitive conception, the historic materials and traditional technologies used in the execution, as well as the parameters of exploitation, involving the natural environment and maintenance. The interventions during use – be they conservation, restoration, rehabilitation or reconstruction works – are meant to adapt the load-bearing structure to the parameters of exploitation. The intervention needs to be prepared by investigations meant to identify the characteristics defined by the original execution and past interventions. We enumerate
architectural, load-bearing structural and technological arguments when establishing the date of the roof structure, but we are aware of the fact, that without a dendrochronological calendar there is no complete certainty.
