The article has two important parts: one about the semantics of the expression “vernacular”, and the second is in connection with development theory and protection of this kind of built heritage. Challenges raised by the on-site (in situ) conservation versus open-air museums, moreover the history of open-air museums and the “Charter on the Built Vernacular Heritage” has been dealt with in the article.
