Résumé:
According to the dictionary, the meaning of the currently very popular word virtual is: seeming, non-genuine, potentially existing. On the other hand, historic building conservation is truly genuine, being a social activity aimed at preserving buildings that have existed for several hundreds or even thousands of years. Can virtuality be interpreted in historic building conservation? At first sight, the answer is clearly: no. But if instead of historic building we use the often applied term of heritage, and instead of historic building conservation we use the phrase heritage conservation, then virtual preservation can arise as a genuine possibility. The article presents the influence that the change in terminology has had on historic buildings through examples found in Western Hungary.
Keywords: reconstruction, initial state, virtual historic building conservation
