The fire on June 11, 2008 affected the roof structure of the tower of the Lutheran Church A. C. in Bistriţa, completely destroying it, as well as the roof structure of the church nave, where most frames were damaged to a certain extent. The tower’s roof structure, 21.6 m high, having an Eclectic style, dating from the period that followed the fire of 1857 – was entirely rebuilt. The roof structure of the nave is one of the roof structures with the widest span among European Gothic-type roof structures (over 22 m). It was partially restored, taking into account its initial characteristics dating from 1561, as well as its shape from 1897, supplemented with a straining device in the main trusses (on about ¼ of its total length). The choir roof structure has also been undergoing restoration interventions, as previous unpron fessional interventions have undermined the resistance and stability of this sub-unit. This article describes the three sub-units (roof structures of the nave, of the chancel and of the tower), based on the technical expertise of the load-bearing structure and the restoration-reconstruction plan that were drafted, including the construction stages of the tower and nave roof structures.
