Within the field of heritage conservation, educational programmes are present at the subsequent educational levels: bachelor, master and master after master programmes at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (K.U. Leuven). First of all, the RLICC (Raymond Lemaire International Centre for Conservation) is an internationally renowned centre for educating conservation specialists within the framework of a master after master programme. Secondly, within the regular masters programme, non-compulsory course on “Restoration techniques” or “Conservation of Monuments and Historic Buildings” are open for master students, both engineers and architects. Andfinally, on bachelor level, students are attracted towards this field by means of a project work within the bachelor degree. Also some students in the arts faculty receive courses on conservation. These different levels intend to continuously enhance our awareness of the social, cultural and economical importance within the preventive conservation of our built heritage. Although in many schools of architecture in Belgium interest for heritage preservation has diminished, at K.U. Leuven it still receives attention at various levels.
